The Market was opened by Alan Duncan and attracted 700 people throughout the day. A wide range of fair trade goods included fashion and accessories, jewellery, fabrics, crafts, gifts and cards, hampers and foodstuffs were sold. Two short, but entertaining, Fashion Shows featured during the day.

A Treasure Trail around the town that includs Fairtrade shops and cafes will be available for people to do and the prize is a fairtrade hamper.

Great turnout of 750 people and Press coverage of the day. Alan Duncan came with great enthusiasm for the event and keenly had a photo next to the ‘Change to Fairtrade’ Banner. A special thank you to Helen and Richard for preparations and to Jo and Sarah for organising the Fashion show. The Fashion show was a success.

Some Highlights From 2009
10th October 2009
Fairtrade Market at Oakham Castle
We held a special Fairtrade market at Oakham Castle on the 10th October, where members of the Rutland Fairtrade Steering Group joined forces with volunteers from the Fairtrading Post at Melton to man a range of stalls selling hampers, clothes, jewellery, and hand-crafted objects to the public.
About 400 people came to the event and raised awareness of Fairtrade issues as well as giving people the opportunity to snap up a few bargains!
21st June 2009
Fairtrade Wine Tasting Event – A Fairtrade wine tasting event was held at the Uppingham Parish Church, St Peter & St Paul, Market Place Uppingham on Sunday 21st June to coincide with the Uppingham Feast. People were able to sample various wines, and buy a glass or bottle of their favourite tipple depending on how much they liked it!
We had lots of very good press coverage and loads of people trying some of the Fairtrade wines for the first time.
5th March 2009
The Fair Trade Fashion Show – Victoria Hall. High Street Oakham. The Rutland Fairtrade Steering Group worked alongside the Vale of Catmose College for 18 months to get students involved in designing Fairtrade accessories for a special fashion show. Other students designed posters for the event and learned about Fairtrade issues. On the night some students provided some fantastic entertainment by dancing to a routine they had put together themselves in front of a packed audience, and then modelled many of the Fairtrade clothes available for sale on the night.
